A strange little side quest
Before the next round of The Orchid's Edge, here is a piece of the bigger picture. Sonic the Hedgehog launched in 1991 and turned speed itself into a defining platform-game mechanic. The broader history adds one more wrinkle. Boxing was part of the ancient Olympic Games by 688 BC, long before gloves, weight classes, or timed rounds existed in anything like their modern form. That history is one reason familiar mechanics can still feel new when they are recombined well.
