A strange little side quest
The rules may be simple on screen, but the backstory around The Last City is anything but tiny. The Oregon Trail mixed travel, supplies, risk and survival decisions decades before resource-management systems became common in mainstream games. A second detail makes the picture even better: Doom changed game design and distribution in 1993 by separating its engine from content and spreading widely through shareware. The screen is modern; the urge to test skill, pattern and timing definitely is not.
