A strange little side quest
Zoom out from Table Tennis for a moment and the timeline gets surprisingly deep. Basketball became an Olympic medal sport in 1936, while women’s basketball joined the Olympic programme in 1976. That old idea kept changing rather than disappearing. In 1958, Tennis for Two used an analog computer and an oscilloscope to turn simple physics into a playable tennis-like demonstration. The details change, but the appeal of learning a system and trying again is remarkably persistent.
