A strange little side quest
Super Store Cashier has plenty of company in a long tradition of players chasing timing, patterns and better decisions. The Oregon Trail began in 1971 when three student teachers created a computer simulation to help Minnesota schoolchildren learn American history. A second detail makes the picture even better: SimCity grew out of Will Wright's enjoyment of the map editor he had built for an earlier game; the act of shaping a city became the game itself. So a round of Super Store Cashier is not just a quick distraction; it is a tiny stop on a much longer learning games timeline.
