A strange little side quest
A small trivia drop for Stand By Me: Doom changed game design and distribution in 1993 by separating its engine from content and spreading widely through shareware. A second detail makes the picture even better: In 1958, Tennis for Two used an analog computer and an oscilloscope to turn simple physics into a playable tennis-like demonstration. The details change, but the appeal of learning a system and trying again is remarkably persistent.
