A strange little side quest
Put Simple Bowling next to the history of simulation games and a few unexpected connections appear. M.U.L.E. arrived in 1983 with multiplayer competition built around gathering resources and keeping a colony alive, an early example of resource-driven strategy play. And then there is this: Basketball became an Olympic medal sport in 1936, while women’s basketball joined the Olympic programme in 1976. That long chain of experiments is part of why simulation games still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
