A strange little side quest
Before the next round of Shopaholic: Tokyo, here is a piece of the bigger picture. SimCity grew out of Will Wright's enjoyment of the map editor he had built for an earlier game; the act of shaping a city became the game itself. The surprising part is how quickly the next milestone followed. During much of the 19th century in the United States, visibly painted cosmetics became socially unacceptable even though beauty practices never disappeared. It is a good reminder that simple game mechanics can carry a surprising amount of history.
