A strange little side quest
The mechanics around Scope have roots that stretch far beyond modern browsers. Alexey Pajitnov created Tetris in 1984 after drawing inspiration from pentomino puzzles, then simplified the idea around shapes made from four squares. Another piece of context lands nicely beside it: Pong was field-tested in California bars in 1972 and helped launch the modern arcade-game era. The details change, but the appeal of learning a system and trying again is remarkably persistent.
