A strange little side quest
Nightmare Bedtime may feel immediate, but the ideas around action games have been evolving for a very long time. Doom changed game design and distribution in 1993 by separating its engine from content and spreading widely through shareware. There is another connection worth keeping in the same mental pocket: In 1958, Tennis for Two used an analog computer and an oscilloscope to turn simple physics into a playable tennis-like demonstration. That is the kind of background detail that makes another attempt at Nightmare Bedtime feel a bit more connected to the history of play.
