A strange little side quest
The rules may be simple on screen, but the backstory around Mutant Fighting Cup is anything but tiny. Boxing was part of the ancient Olympic Games by 688 BC, long before gloves, weight classes, or timed rounds existed in anything like their modern form. There is another connection worth keeping in the same mental pocket: Spacewar! appeared on MIT's PDP-1 in 1962 and became one of the earliest influential computer games shared among programmers. That gives Mutant Fighting Cup a little more company than it first appears to have.
