A strange little side quest
Medieval Life belongs to a much longer story of play than a browser tab might suggest. The first crossword puzzle book appeared in 1924 in a cautious initial printing of 3,600 copies, complete with a free pencil. That old idea kept changing rather than disappearing. By 1987, fantasy role-playing had become a major computer-game direction, with Zelda, licensed Dungeons & Dragons games and other story-led adventures expanding the form. Not bad for a few facts hiding behind a Play button.
