A strange little side quest
The fun part of looking behind Me Alone is seeing how many older ideas are still alive in modern play. Doom changed game design and distribution in 1993 by separating its engine from content and spreading widely through shareware. The surprising part is how quickly the next milestone followed. Atari's Gran Trak 10 from 1974 is recognized as the first arcade racing video game. That long chain of experiments is part of why action games still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
