A strange little side quest
Put Magic Dress up next to the history of fashion and style and a few unexpected connections appear. Barbie Fashion Designer became a major software hit in 1996, selling more than 500,000 copies in two months and proving there was a large audience for fashion-focused computer play. That is only half the story. Nintendo's Donkey Kong arrived in 1981 and introduced the character first known as Jumpman, who later became Mario. That long chain of experiments is part of why fashion and style still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
