A strange little side quest
A quick detour while Lovely Mermaid waits for your next move: Alexey Pajitnov created Tetris in 1984 after drawing inspiration from pentomino puzzles, then simplified the idea around shapes made from four squares. It also connects to a different milestone: By the 1890s, department stores and mail-order catalogs were selling mass-produced ready-to-wear clothes in standardized styles and price ranges. That is the kind of background detail that makes another attempt at Lovely Mermaid feel a bit more connected to the history of play.
