A strange little side quest
Kim Jong Un LOL Face may feel immediate, but the ideas around video-game history have been evolving for a very long time. Pong was field-tested in California bars in 1972 and helped launch the modern arcade-game era. That old idea kept changing rather than disappearing. Pac-Man went on sale in 1980, and its creator Toru Iwatani famously linked the character's shape to a pizza with a slice missing. That gives Kim Jong Un LOL Face a little more company than it first appears to have.
