A strange little side quest
High Dive Hero may feel immediate, but the ideas around role-playing games have been evolving for a very long time. By 1987, fantasy role-playing had become a major computer-game direction, with Zelda, licensed Dungeons & Dragons games and other story-led adventures expanding the form. The surprising part is how quickly the next milestone followed. Archery was already on the Olympic programme in 1900, boxing joined the modern Games in 1904, and basketball became a medal sport in 1936. That gives High Dive Hero a little more company than it first appears to have.
