A strange little side quest
There is a neat bit of history hiding behind the kind of play you find in Florence: The Fifth Element. Modern chess traces back to the Indian game chaturanga, recorded around the sixth century and built around pieces representing parts of an army. The same trail leads to another fact: M.U.L.E. arrived in 1983 with multiplayer competition built around gathering resources and keeping a colony alive, an early example of resource-driven strategy play. That gives Florence: The Fifth Element a little more company than it first appears to have.
