Here is a rabbit hole for the next loading screen in Fill the Water: Street Fighter II, released in 1991, turned head-to-head arcade fighting into a worldwide phenomenon and helped define the modern fighting-game genre. That is only half the story. The Oregon Trail began in 1971 when three student teachers created a computer simulation to help Minnesota schoolchildren learn American history. That gives Fill the Water a little more company than it first appears to have.
