A strange little side quest
Put Doodle Rider next to the history of simulation games and a few unexpected connections appear. SimCity grew out of Will Wright's enjoyment of the map editor he had built for an earlier game; the act of shaping a city became the game itself. The surprising part is how quickly the next milestone followed. Silverstone hosted the first Formula 1 World Championship round on May 13, 1950. That history is one reason familiar mechanics can still feel new when they are recombined well.
