A strange little side quest
Between one round of Dig Out Miner Golf and the next, this is worth knowing: Alexey Pajitnov created Tetris in 1984 after drawing inspiration from pentomino puzzles, then simplified the idea around shapes made from four squares. The same trail leads to another fact: Basketball became an Olympic medal sport in 1936, while women’s basketball joined the Olympic programme in 1976. That history is one reason familiar mechanics can still feel new when they are recombined well.
