A strange little side quest
Daily Ally may feel immediate, but the ideas around simulation games have been evolving for a very long time. SimCity grew out of Will Wright's enjoyment of the map editor he had built for an earlier game; the act of shaping a city became the game itself. Another piece of context lands nicely beside it: By the 1890s, department stores and mail-order catalogs were selling mass-produced ready-to-wear clothes in standardized styles and price ranges. That is the kind of background detail that makes another attempt at Daily Ally feel a bit more connected to the history of play.
