A strange little side quest
The fun part of looking behind Clicker Royale is seeing how many older ideas are still alive in modern play. Early computer role-playing games helped turn rules, inventories, exploration and character progression into systems that could support long-form digital adventures. A second detail makes the picture even better: In 1958, Tennis for Two used an analog computer and an oscilloscope to turn simple physics into a playable tennis-like demonstration. That gives Clicker Royale a little more company than it first appears to have.
