A strange little side quest
Zoom out from Chip Family for a moment and the timeline gets surprisingly deep. The first crossword puzzle book appeared in 1924 in a cautious initial printing of 3,600 copies, complete with a free pencil. It also connects to a different milestone: Space Invaders, released in 1978, helped push video games into mainstream popular culture. It is a good reminder that simple game mechanics can carry a surprising amount of history.
