A strange little side quest
Chicken Shooting has plenty of company in a long tradition of players chasing timing, patterns and better decisions. A major archery competition held at Finsbury in England in 1583 drew about 3,000 participants. The broader history adds one more wrinkle. Doom changed game design and distribution in 1993 by separating its engine from content and spreading widely through shareware. That long chain of experiments is part of why archery still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
