A strange little side quest
Even a quick game like Battle Gear sits on top of decades — and sometimes centuries — of ideas. Games resembling checkers were being played thousands of years ago; evidence of related games reaches back to around 1600 BC. That old idea kept changing rather than disappearing. Nintendo's Donkey Kong arrived in 1981 and introduced the character first known as Jumpman, who later became Mario. That is the kind of background detail that makes another attempt at Battle Gear feel a bit more connected to the history of play.
