A strange little side quest
Put 3D Pinball Space Cadet next to the history of basketball and a few unexpected connections appear. The earliest basketball games used peach baskets, and Naismith wrote 13 original rules for the new indoor sport. It also connects to a different milestone: Pac-Man went on sale in 1980, and its creator Toru Iwatani famously linked the character's shape to a pizza with a slice missing. That long chain of experiments is part of why basketball still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
